The degree completed in the Education field is the Bachelor of Humanities.

Community Educators are professionals and experts in NGO and youth work, working for local authorities, church parishes and various organisations, institutions and business enterprises as
- organisers and instructors
- directors of youth services
- organisational and leisure instructors
- instructors in child welfare institutions
- project managers and co-ordinators
- planning officers
- educators and service entrepreneurs
- executive directors.
The scope of the Degree Programme in Community Education is 210 ECTS credits.
What do the studies comprise?
Studies in Education emphasise extensive all-round general education in social and cultural aspects, social skills and interpersonal skills.
Studies consist of core, professional and elective studies, work placement periods and a Bachelor’s thesis. The core studies provide a foundation for professional studies and any possible specialisation. Programmes include work placement periods with a minimum scope of 30 ECTS credits, which may also be partially completed abroad. The purpose of the Bachelor’s thesis is for students to demonstrate their ability to carry out development work that is relevant to the world of work.
The studies are multidisciplinary and closely related to working life. The core areas of the professional skills of Community Educators include support for inclusion and civic participation, prevention of exclusion, pedagogy, multiculturalism, development of organisations and their internal communication, as well as strengthening community spirit. Action-based methods and expertise in adolescence, in particular, are of key importance. The programme allows students to specialise as youth work professionals or specialists in NGO work.
After completing a university applied sciences (UAS) Bachelor’s degree and acquiring at least 3 years of relevant work experience, it is possible to take a university applied sciences (UAS) Master’s degree with a scope of 90 ECTS credits on one of the following programmes:
- Degree Programme in NGO and Youth Work
The degree titles of graduates from these Degree Programmes are Master of Humanities, Community Educator (yhteisöpedagogi, ylempi AMK).
The English-language degree title is Master of Humanities.
Please note, that at the moment the degree programmes offered in the field of Education are conducted only in Finnish. The joint application period for Finnish Bachelor’s Degree programmes is annually in March-April.
